The first move: Screens
"Getting off devices turns into a fight."
The standard
Two sentences max. Say it once, repeat once, then follow through.
Say this
"Screen down. Now."
If no response — "Hand it to me, or put it down. What are you choosing?"
When they push
You take the device calmly. The standard doesn't change because they're upset.
Your 24-hour plan
- 1Set the one screen moment you'll hold this week.
- 2Two sentences, then follow through — no lecture.
- 3Recovery rule: if you cave or yell, repair and return to the standard.
This is the exact leadership your kids build on our mat — the same words at home, at school, and in class.
